Pure Talent Elite crowns its first AAU National Champion
In its first season, Pure Talent Elite Track and Field has its first National Champion! In the first event of the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic games, 10 year old athlete Kristen Birmingham earned All-American Honors while clinching the triathlon! The triathlon consist of the high jump, shot put, and 200m dash. In an exciting morning and afternoon she battled with 29 other young ladies and won by a margin of 6 points totaling 1201 points. She had personal best in two of the three events, clearing 4 feet 4 inches in the high jump and running 29.27 in the 200m. Her shot put throw at 17 feet 11 inches was barely enough as the second place overall finisher was right behind her with 17 feet 8 inches. That distance ending up being the 6 point difference. "We are very proud of her", says Pure Talent Head Coach and her father Vernon Birmingham. "She worked very hard in the offseason for this day right here. After coming in second place last year by 11 points her goal was to come back and win it and when you look at the fact she PR'd (personal records) in two events she was hungry". Congratulations to Kristen Birmingham, National Champion!
